Bite Me

Ideal Bite, a new daily newsletter, is a cross between the popular Daily Candy newsletter and the Sierra Club. Like the Daily Candy, you get a daily newsletter with interesting and useful tidbits surrounded by sassy illustrations. But, instead of superficial tips on fashion, beauty and travel, you get tips on things like fashion, beauty and travel that you can enjoy while saving the planet.

I signed up and received an email welcoming me as a “Biter (note to founders: need to change the term “Biter to something more appealing), with an explanation of their service.

“Welcome to Ideal Bite — the ultimate online source of clever ideas that are good for both people and the planet.â€?

Who could argue with receiving information like that? If you visit their “Meet the Team page you see photos of all young, healthy looking attractive people. So, if I follow the advice from their newsletter, will I eventually look like one of them? Ok, sign me up. Oh wait, I already did.

Their website (and newsletter) offers links to a marketplace for (you guessed it) eco-friendly products, a blog and a tip library. My advice to them is to organize their tip library by date as well as topic and make it clear in their marketplace that clicking on a link will take you to Amazon, Greeenfeet, Greenfest or wherever they are linking to.

You can also join their Bite Club, “a not-so-secret society of Biters that want to help good companies do better by informing them on your opinions in our occasional surveys. You get discounts or freebies for participating, so you can sign up if you like freebies and discounts too. I signed up. I’m always up for freebies – and of course I want good companies to do better. Really.

What is most appealing about Ideal Bite is their newsletter. Brief and chock full of interesting tidbits, it offers more than Daily Candy’s snarky product recommendations. I don’t consider myself an ardent environmentalist, but I have found their tips to be helpful and inspirational. In other words, you don’t have to be passionate about saving the earth, just mildly interested, to get something out of Ideal Bite.
