Thinking of trying your hand at Deep Fried Turkey this year? Think again… You probably never thought much about Underwriters Laboratories or that little “UL” sticker that appears on many household appliances. In this case, you might want to listen to what they have to say, as they have “refused to certify” the home deep-fat fryers that many people use to incinerate their Thanksgiving bird in 5 gallons of yummy peanut oil. It seems that these handy devices are just too prone to upending, exploding, and generally causing household mayhem. I’ve always been interested in trying this, but these videos have definitely triggered a second thought.

While I’m on the subject, I may reconsider my usual 10-string daisy chain of Christmas lights.
