Catalyst Group is seeking a Visual Designer to design Web and mobile sites and applications for clients that include global brands, start-ups, not-for-profits, and many others. Working alongside Catalyst's Creative Director and our team of visual and interaction designers, you'll develop original design concepts, executedesigns based on design directions and style guides, create design specifications, and develop and deliver both internal and client-facing presentations.
You'll:
- Create original design concepts and design systems for Web, mobile sites, and applications.
- Create other design deliverables, including icons and logos.
- Apply visual designs and design systems to wireframes.
- Create style guides and other production-ready design deliverables for use as specifications by designers and developers.
- Create storyboards for time-based interactions.
- Develop and deliver internal and client-facing presentations.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Degree in visual communications or a related field preferred.
Skills
- Understanding of visual design systems, hierarchy, typography, aesthetics, illustration, photography and composition.
- Knowledge of interaction design patterns, site architecture, user interfaces and navigation.
- Competent in the use of PhotoShop and Illustrator; experience with other applications in the Adobe Creative Suite (Fireworks, InDesign, Flash).
- Understanding of the capabilities and limitations of HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
- Understanding of the physical, cognitive, cultural and social factors that affect design decisions.
- Ability to generate design ideas on the fly in a fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative environment, while balancing user experience,brand and business focuses.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in teams across multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to collaborate in a creative, cooperative environment.
Experience
Two or more years experience as a visual designer. Agency experience preferred.

The ideal candidate for this position will share our passion for helping our clients create highly desirable, useful, and easy-to-use products and services. In addition, this role requires the ability to confidently identify and articulate observations and recommendations based on feedback gathered from the variety of research methodologies that are the staples of our practice. These include: contextual inquiry, eye-tracking, 1:1 usability studies, "café" tests, collaborative design sessions, questionnaire design, and focus groups.
Catalyst Usability Analysts work with our senior researchers to plan and execute studies and then take the lead in analyzing the results and preparing the reporting materials. The role requires close interaction with our clients' development/design team (or our own designers) to review the results of the study and identify recommended design changes. Opportunities will also exist to participate in design conceptualization activities.
Some travelling will be necessary but won't exceed 20% of your total hours.

This role will involve an ability to lead and work on several projects at various stages simultaneously. Senior Usability Researchers are also required to spend some of their time mentoring team members.
